Tired of finding spam in
your Inbox? The FREE Mozilla Thunderbird email client
provides the most effective tools for detecting and
filtering out junk mail. Thunderbird's tools analyze your
email and identify those that are most likely to be junk.

Thunderbird is as easy to use
as Outlook Express but far safer and more powerful. Outlook
and Outlook Express are extremely
vulnerable to viruses - especially
if you have not taken the time to download and install all
of seemingly never ending security patches for Outlook and
also Internet Explorer.
Thunderbird's email creation capabilities are superior to
Outlook. It supports a wide range of HTML-style email
constructs, including tables, named anchors, and even a
table of contents. It also provides more powerful image
tools than those found in Outlook Express. Images can be
easily resized and placed anywhere in the message. Of
course, Thunderbird also includes basic text formatting and
a spell-check feature.
Thunderbird's advanced inbound-message processing includes a
junk email filter that can automatically flag messages it
thinks are spam, with the option of automatically moving or
deleting them. Thunderbird uses Bayesian analysis to filter
out spam. The filters actually learn what should be
considered as spam based on what you manually
designate as junk. After a few
initial days of manually tagging spam, Thunderbird
accurately tags and filters out most of it for you. The junk
email rules are easy to configure. Initially, you might want
to have all your junk mail sent to the junk email folder
where you can view it before deleting it.
Thunderbird's interface is extremely intuitive. It features
smart search tools that let you save the results in a folder
and run the search again at a later date as well as the
ability to color-codes messages for easier sorting
(important, work, personal, etc.).
Outlook (and other) users can switch to Thunderbird with
almost no pain. At install, it automatically imports account
settings and addresses from Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft
Outlook Express, Eudora or Netscape Mail. It can also
transport unopened mail from your old inbox.
Thunderbird supports multiple email accounts and work well
on both web-based mail like Gmail and on POP3 accounts. It
also supports IMAP for connecting to Exchange and other
servers.
Mozilla has also made Thunderbird extensible - in
functionality as well as look and feel. The current list of
extensions includes the ability to control your music player
from within Thunderbird and a nifty way to use mouse
gestures, instead of the keyboard, to read e-mail.
Thunderbird's look can also be changed through downloadable
skins. More Thunderbird extensions
are likely to be released in the future.
Thunderbird works across the Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris
platforms. It's list of features
include:
- Adaptive Junk Mail
controls
- RSS Integration
- Saved Search Folders
- Global Inbox Support
- Message Grouping
- Privacy Protection
- Mail Migration from
other email clients
- Highly customizable
- IMAP/POP Support
- Support for HTML
