Free Internet
access is usually paid for by advertisers. Most free ISPs expose you to ad banners by
using an ad banner bar. Some require you to periodically click on their advertisers'
banner every 20 minutes or so to stay connected.
Some Free ISPs require you to fill out lengthy forms that ask a lot of personal questions
that can be used to blitz you with marketing later on.
Some FREE ISPs give you free Internet access but charge for other things - like answering
a question. Some limit your usage to a certain number of hours per month.
Some ISPs claim to be free, but have a set-up fee. Most Free ISP's include email but it would
be better to use the email services of a known company like Yahoo, or
HotMail - just in case your Free ISP suddenly
disappears. Also, you do decide to use the Free ISP email, first send a message to
yourself just to see if they insert ads into their email.
You might want to sign up
with a couple of Free ISPs at the same time because free ISPs tend to go out of business.
You may try to connect one day and receive a message that their service is no longer
available. If this happens, at least you'll have a backup if you've signed up with an
additional Free ISP.
